Why NetherVolts?

As Amsterdam switches to electric cars and heat pumps, our power grid is under more pressure than ever. Think of it like a highway during rush hour, if too many people use electricity at once, we get traffic jams (grid congestion) that can lead to power outages.

How NetherVolts solves this?

• Preventing Overload: We visualize invisible stress points in the grid so engineers can fix them before they break.
• Smarter Planning: We help the city decide exactly where to upgrade cables or install batteries.
• Reducing Waste: By spotting high-consumption areas, we highlight opportunities to save energy and lower costs.

How to Use It

• Explore: Hover over the map. Red means high stress (heavy usage), and Green means healthy efficiency.
• Analyze: Click on any neighborhood to open the sidebar. See the exact numbers for how much power that area consumes.
• Compare: Wondering how the city center compares to the North? Click a second region to compare them side-by-side.

Data Sources

We believe in using honest data to make decisions.

• Real Data: The yearly totals you see are real 2025 measurements provided by Liander (Amsterdam's grid operator).
• Smart Estimation: To show you daily movement, we use Interpolation (a scientific method where we calculate the likely daily patterns based on the real yearly totals).
